Student Name and Pronouns

Names and pronouns have power. Some of you may use the names and gendered pronouns given to you when you were born, while others may use a different name and/or pronouns. A person who identifies as the sex they were assigned at birth is considered cisgender, while someone who identifies as another gender (or as having no gender) may be considered transgender and/or nonbinary. By allowing each person the opportunity to self-identify we are working to create a campus that is respectful and affirming of everyone.

We use this sheet instead of publicly sharing names and pronouns because that practice may not feel safe or comfortable to all, and often comes with additional emotional labor for those who are trans and/or nonbinary. For some of you, this form might be easy to fill out and will not raise any questions or emotions. For others, this may be more challenging. I invite you to contact me and/or come to my office hours if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to further discuss how I can best support you.
