Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Ally
Panel Discussion Program 2007-2008
The MSU LBGTA Panel Discussion Program* is a diverse group of
lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender and ally students who are
trained to provide education in classrooms, campus units, student
organizations, residence halls, and community settings about
identities and issues relevant to the LBGTA community.
Panels provide awareness and education about the diverse
identities of LBGTA people. The format of the program typically
includes panelists providing an overview of their lives, "coming
out" processes and experiences, followed by Q&A. Panels may
also address special topic areas, such as the intersections of
race/ethnicity and LBGT identities. Discussion topics often
include: Family reactions, health issues, issues particularly
pertaining to students and campus safety.
The program promotes critical thinking through challenging
dialogue. A panel may also be the first opportunity the audience has
to ask honest questions in a safe environment.
* Individual speakers are also available for guest lectures
or participation on broader-focus panels. Please call us (353-9520) to discuss
your needs.
MSU student comments on the panel discussion program (2005-2006)
"I enjoyed this program very much – thank you for voicing your
life and your choices. I'm confident you changed a lot of people's
minds today, for the better."
"This is a great way to educate people about the community."
"I think it's awesome how these young adults are putting
themselves out there – they could have huge impacts on people in
their situation."
Request a panel
We can no longer accept requests for panels for 2007-2008. Thank you to everyone
who participated in the program this year!
Please encourage your students to look at this year's
Pride Week events (April 11-19) and attend any that
seem interesting.
