2007 MSU Pride Week!

Pride week is the primary LBGTQ community celebration, planned, implemented and sponsored by the various MSU student LBGTQA organizations. Many of the events listed here are educational, but there's plenty of fun, too!

Thursday, 12 April
Artsy Fartsy Pride Extravaganza
4:00 - 8:00 pm, Mason-Abbot Courtyard (Mason basement if it rains).
Begin your celebration of Pride Week with a visual and aural extravaganza! We'll be showcasing all sorts of artistic talent and also hosting a talent show (including an open mic). Food is provided!
Monday, 16 April
Bathroom Crawl
9:00 am - 7:30 pm, around campus.
Join TransAction for MSU's 2nd Annual Bathroom Crawl! We'll be traveling around campus educating about the need for gender neutral bathrooms and for the inclusion of gender identity in the MSU anti-discrimination policy. This year we are asking that people come dressed to defy gender norms and stand with us in their legally assigned bathrooms as we hand out information. The event will be running all day and traveling around to different locations across campus, ending in a regrouping debriefing session and a showing of the short film, Toilet Training. There is a new set of bathroom crawl tee shirts! If you are interested in the bathroom crawl and/or the tee shirts, please contact TransAction at phitaumu@msu.edu (times and locations of the crawl will be distributed over email). Sponsored by TransAction.

Invisible Truth: Relationship and Sexual Violence in LBGT Communities
8:00 - 9:00 pm, Lake Superior Room, MSU Union.
Relationship and sexual violence occurs within LGBTQ communities more often than many realize. Such violence is often 'invisible' for several reasons, including the fear of exposing one's sexual or gender identity, myths about LBGTQ people ("it can't happen to us"), and limited resources available to members of LBGTQ communities. Join us for an information session about relationship and sexual violence and how to provide support to survivors. Featuring guest speaker Jen Grzegorek, Ph.D. Sponsored by Spectrum.
Tuesday, 17 April

Throughout the day we will be silently distributing flyers at different locations on campus, raising awareness about whey we are silent. Finally, there will be a Breaking the Silence discussion in Gold Room A on the second floor of the Union at 5:00 pm, where we will reflect on the experience of participating in NDOS and how silence affects the LBGTQ community. Look who's signed up to help!
