2006 National Coming Out Days at MSU
These events are all organized by LBGTA student organizations.

- Sat, Oct 7, 4:00-7:00 pm, Coming Out BBQ, Auditorium Field
- (by The Rock). Come out to be proud. Come out to support friends and allies.
Come out for some food and chats. Come out and have fun and play some games. Sponsored by
SPECTRUM.
- Sun, Oct 8, noon-3:00 pm, Gay Gaymes, Auditorium Field
- (by The Rock). The Fruitbowl is an annual event bringing LBGTQ folks
and allies together for fun, outdoor sporting events. This year's games, "The Gay
Games," will feature such activities as Tug of War, Relay Races, and more. There will
be prizes! Everyone is welcome to this event, queer and straight alike. Sponsored by PRIDE.

- Mon, Oct 9, noon-2:30 pm, "Who's the Immigrant," workshop,
Heritage Room in the Multicultural Center
- An interactive workshop on Native/Indigenous
issues in the Americas. Issues to be addressed include: Two-Spirit/Native LBGTQ people, an
introduction to Indigenous issues, and the Latino/Latina struggle as an Indigenous struggle.
Workshop will be lead by Cherokee Two-Spirit/Queer poet, essayist, and activist Qwo-Li Driskill.

- Indigenous People's Day candle-light vigil at the rock, starting 6:30 pm.
NAISO is hosting a panel, "On the Fence: Controversy over
the the U.S. Border, discussion of the effects on Sovereign Indian Nations and Immigration,"
from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm. in room 101 North Kedzie Hall.

- Tue, Oct 10, 7:00 pm, "Speak-Out" Poetry Slam, with special guest queer
activist Poet JJ, Wonders Hall Kiva
The poetry slam/speak-out features the dynamic poet JJ, but is open to
anyone who is a poet or has something they'd like to share. Contact SGL SOCIAL at
social2k@msu.edu to be put on the performance list.
Juan José Reyna is an actor, hip-hop, spoken word performance artist, and advocate for
queer individuals with a New York City LGBT health center. Currently residing in Brooklyn, New York;
Juan José is originally from the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, and he is very proud to be
Chicano and Tejano. He graduated with his B.F.A. in acting from Brigham Young University. JJ's
performances cover a variety of topics ranging from love, racism, transphobia, religion,
femme/butch relationships and gender identity to domestic violence, and discrimination in the
queer community. His work has been seen all around the five boroughs of New York and has most
recently been showcased in "No Return" at the New York International Fringe Festival,
and in "Foursome" at NYC's Queer@Here theatre festival. J.J. was a featured artist on
NYC's WBAI 99.5 Pacifica Radio and has performed alongside Leslie Feinberg at Transfixor. He has
also performed at Columbia University's Latino Pride Showcase. He is the recipient of the 2003
National Fellowship Award given by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for
his role in BYU's National award-winning production of Lady House Blues. You can contact him

"Intellectual Intercourse," which very poetically states the need to make love
with the mind and intellect, as well as the body."

- Interactive panel of LBGT and non-LBGT identified students.
The Wilson Hall Mentors will also be showing TransAmerica following the "Guess

- Thu, Oct 12, 3:00-6:00 pm, Coming Out Awareness Rally, at the rock
- Come out and support LBGTA students. It's not easy to identify as LBGT or as an ally
of LBGT people. Come share your support and your stories. Sponsored by BRIGHT.
- Fri, Oct 13, 8:30-11:00 pm, NCOD Dance, Gilchrist Pub
- Come out and come proud to the NCOD day on Friday the 13th! Eat some cookies, dance
a little, and just have a great time! Sponsored by RING, PRIDE and Mishpocha.
